FOUNDED IN 1997
After spending his childhood in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Peru, Martin Mayorga's family arrived to the United States. Martin knew early on that coming to this country was a privilege. He had also seen first-hand the socioeconomic disparity between those who grow our food and those who sell it. By the time he was 18 years old, he knew he had to find a way to leverage his opportunities and resources in an attempt to re-balance those inequities.
We focus on organic products because we believe in being kind to our environment, protecting the health and well-being of our farmers, and consuming clean, unadulterated foods. This mindset permeates through all aspects of how we run our business and the decisions we make. Operating sustainably isn't a marketing concept. It's a conscientious decision we must make daily.
SOURCED WITH LOVE. ROASTED DAILY.
One does not curate or create quality products by chance. High quality is the result of being committed to a craft and having a purpose. From our farmers to our roasters and production staff, we are all committed to not just protecting, but enhancing the quality of all our products, through every step of the process.
The "roya" plague in 2013 devastated coffee farms throughout Latin America, wiping out up to 70% of farmers' coffee harvest. Our agronomists in Latin America recommenced crop diversification and we jumped to action by planting chia with our producers in northern Nicaragua and supporting diversification programs for our farmer partners.
Since 1997 we've built a reputation as industry leaders by partnering with farmers rather than trading with them. We are invested in sustainability at all levels not only in Latin America but at all our facilities.
WE celebrate our roots
¡HECHO CON ORGULLO LATINO!
Mayorga is a company founded by a Latino with a focus on supporting producers in Latin America. For many years we dealt with corporate buyers and consumers assuming that our products were secondary quality that belonged next to the tortillas because of the name Mayorga. We love tortillas, but the quality of our products deserves respect--as does our heritage. We are proud of who we are and want to believe that we can be an example for others who have felt marginalized.
